Holons and Psychology.

The concept of an "association" is important in Psychology. In the therapies of Carl Gustav Jung, Sigmund Freud and other psychologists and psychiatrists, associations are often used to find out and treat the problems of patients with mental instability or disorders.

In psychology a mental association happens when two elements (
X and Y) are linked or paired to each other, where experience of one ( X or Y) recalls the other ( Y or X).

This is in fact the process how memories works. For example we think of "snow" and we associate it with "white" (a colour) or "cold" (a sensation), or with "winter" (a season), or with something else.
Such mental/memory associations can happen between various events, like objects, sensations, ideas, symbols, words, situations, locations, persons, animals, etc.
Associations may be neutral (factual), positive (satisfying, harmonic) or negative (distortional, inharmonic).

Negative associations can lead to various forms of mental disorder, like several type of phobia (avoidance, like anxiety for spiders, fear of heights, travel and fear for flying, agoraphobia, leaving home, small rooms/elevators, ...), Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), paranoia, psychosis (loss of contact with reality), ... ).

Associations can happen on the conscious and unconscious level. Or unpleasant or shocking experiences and associations may be repressed as a defence system.

Now in our topological holon approach the psyche and consciousness are complex networks of less-layered topological holons (interconnected multilayered spaces). These holons have sub-holons on their layers and coupled between their layers. This resembles the idea/concept of an holographic system, but is not identical. To me, the "information" encoding in the two-dimensional structure happens in a geometrical way by the unbreakable membrane itself, by generating multilayered holons. Inside networks in a holon structure, it's general structure and the interconnections with other holons make complex circuit-like systems which stores and redistributes specific energies over the mediating membrane layers. Each holon is a type of "white" micro-universe (like a micro-battery, a dynamic memory) that keeps it's relative integrity/relatively closed by a "gate". On decay both basic energies - which make the micro-universe - withdraw from their position in a black-hole-like action.

In next animate image I show how a "mental association" or "mental coupling" can be explained in topological way.
creation of a mental association in psychology (carl gustav jung, sigmund freud, adler)

In the image you see how
an existing experience X ( like an idea, an event, an object, a situation, ...) will be changed when it is penetrated by another new experience Y (another idea, event, object, situation, ...)
This results in a new unique "micro-space" in the brain/mind holon, which is a union of both experiences (X + Y). So if we
think of X we also think of Y, and visa-versa, because they are now joined as a single space.
Thinking means that we activate/make vibrate a holon (memory), like we activate a church bell by means of a rope. That results is a specific sound. Similar the holon vibrates, sending vibrations over certain membrane layers, where these vibrations can be sensed by resonant brain holons which can translate them into neural signals.

This new mental/brain holon may be neutral, positive or negative.

For example a neutral factual association can be the number 10 and the number
5, giving the new number 15.
A
positive, harmonic association is for example the experience of a baby (X) and playing with a toy (Y), resulting in the observers' feeling of happiness (X + Y) or even a peak experience.
A
negative, inharmonic association is for example an airplane (X) and TV-News movie of a crashing airplane (Y), resulting in the observers' feeling of fear (X + Y) when thinking about an airplane or travel by flying. When Y1 was very strong, or when it is repeated in time by similar information ( Y2, Y3, Y4, ...) then this leads to panic attacks or other type of mental disorders and behaviour.

So mental associations can be seen as interactions and couplings of topological mental holons.

The treatment of any mental disorder in psychiatry and psychology can be situated as targeting the decoupling of unwanted mental associations.

One of the methods is called "free association". It is one of the techniques used in Depth psychology.

Wikipedia: "
Depth psychology is a broad term that refers to any psychological approach examining the depth (the subtle or unconscious parts) of human experience. It includes the study and interpretation of dreams, complexes, and archetypes, and it encompasses any psychology that works with the concept of an unconscious mind.

In practice depth psychology seeks to explore underlying motives as an approach to various mental disorders, with the belief that the uncovering of these motives is intrinsically healing. It seeks the deep layers underlying behavioural and cognitive processes.

The initial work and development of the theories and therapies by Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler and Otto Rank that came to be known as depth psychology have resulted in three perspectives in modern times:

* Psychoanalytic: Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott (among others)- Object Relational Theories
* Adlerian: Adler’s Individual psychology
* Jungian: Jung’s Analytical psychology and James Hillman’s Archetypal psychology "

The mechanism of the decoupling of mental associations is shown in next animated image. We start with inharmonic holon (X + Y), where the cause of the negative association is a negative experience or perception.
By changing properties or characteristics of
Y, or X and Y, we may be able to destroy (decay) the inharmonic holon (X + Y), so that the energies of X are set back in it's normal mode or frequency and Y disappears or becomes less important.
the mechanisme of mental disorders and the way to solve mental illnesses or mental disorders in a topological way
So it's a causal topological destructing process, where the negative cause is released, resulting in a change in the behaviour.
From a topological view the best way to dissociate the association is by reducing the strength (or pressure) of
Y-peak, so that the negative holon Y is pushed out by the stronger X layers (blue and orange coloured in the image) of the inharmonic holon (X + Y).

This new topological vision of what a mental association is, is very powerful when the therapist uses it in solving a mental disorder, since it gives him a kind of engineering framework to act.
Like in hypnotherapy the deep relaxation state helps to release very fast the negative
Y-peak (the cause). That released energy should be coupled (transmuted, pelastrated) in a new positive mental holon (Y + Z), like i.e. "optimism", "sport", "creativity", etc. This to avoid that this energy recouples into it's previous position. To have a strong and fast result by hypnosis both X and Y should be addresses. Relaxing both makes the decoupling more easy.

Also
self-help can be applied by autogenic training, by yoga and mediation, and certain alternative systems.

The use of psychiatric medication can be a must in heavy cases of psychosis, but should be avoid in general, because sedatives only immobilize or hide the inharmonic holons, but never decouple their negative association in a
structural way.

Mental health professionals use different methodologies to diagnose the patient, but this topological holon approach looks for the essential energetic patterns in humans, which follow the universal coupling mechanism, called pelastration, that we find everywhere in Nature.
